MPP Toby Barrett encourages Haldimand to demand ‘Peace, Order and Good Government’

UPDATED 1845 EST Feb 23/08: National Post, Feb 13/08 – Police ignoring native violence, MPP alleges

At 1000 this morning I received an email from MPP Toby Barrett (top photo on right) outlining his attempt to encourage Haldimand County to issue a strongly worded proclamation  calling on federal and provincial governments to restore ‘Peace, Order and Good Government’ to their citizens. He even provided a draft proclamation for Council’s “review and action.”

MPP Toby Barrett: Who sets direction for OPP?

UPDATED 1923 EST Dec 19/07: corrected date typos re McHale’s initial bail hearing – should have been Dec 14/07, not November, and date of inaugural March for Freedom which took place on Oct 15/06, not Oct 08th. Thanks, Murray, for letting me know.

t-shirt_free-caledonia-now_sep22-07.jpgI received permission today from MPP Toby Barrett’s office to reprint his column from the Dec 14/07 issue of The Sachem called – most aptly – “Who sets direction for OPP?

Fortunately, Detective Murry, testifying during Gary McHale’s bail hearing which took place on the same day, let the cat out of the bag as to who’s running the OPP, and why they’re so determined to ‘get’ Gary McHale.

Brantford Expositor endorses violence against civil rights activist

UPDATED Jan 29/10

UPDATE 1425 Dec 08/07: The Managing Editor of the Brantford Expositor has accepted my offer to reprint the entire disputed editorial on VoiceofCanada in place of the short excerpt quoted in the original version of this article.

UPDATE 1720 EST Dec 07/07: Brantford Expositor responds. See Brantford Expositor: “at no time do we condone violence”

Since last Saturday’s events, we have been busy reviewing evidence, and preparing for yesterday’s news conference at the Queen’s Park Media Studio which was attended by MPP Toby Barrett, Haldimand’s new CAO, Don Boyle (thank you for coming!) and at least one OPP officer.  You can find complete coverage at

Hamilton Spectator, CHTV assist in vilifying Gary McHale

On November 09, 2007 the Hamilton Spectator published a complete transcript of Susan Clairmont’s interview with OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino in which he accused “McHale and company” of – among many other things – wanting civil war, violence and a Pakistani-style dictatorship. So far, we have written a total of 5 letters to the Spectator, including to Editor-in-Chief David Estok, asking that we be allowed to respond to Fantino’s irrational accusations, and to meet with them to help them understand the truth. So far, the Spectator has not given us the courtesy of a response.

Fantino – delusional or desperate?

Bad as Fantino’s recent comments about Gary McHale and his ‘interlopers’ were in Susan Clairmont’s Nov 08/07 Hamilton Spectator article called Fantino Takes Aim [reprint], they pale in comparison to other remarks attributed to Fantino in a Nov 09/07 Spectator transcript of the entire interview [PDF].

McGuinty threatens CHTV – who the hell do you think you are?!?

UPDATE 2029 EST Sept 15/07: Link to CHCH video re McGuinty intimidation attempt. See also, CHCH TV not only victim of McGuinty intimidation

In the ‘Who the hell do you think you are?‘ department, McGuinty’s Liberal campaign office today tried to silence and control the media by trying – unsuccessfully – to intimidate CHTV into not running a story about a Brantford developer’s confrontation with the Premier over his government’s refusal to provide assistance for builders suffering landclaim extortion and occupations.

Earth to Fantino… Earth to Monte… Earth to McGuinty…

UPDATED 1536 Sept 01/07

Re: Fantino’s comments about Greenpeace’s interference with a coal ship bound for Nanticoke…

“nothing but anarchy”

“I would have seized that ship as a result of it facilitating criminal activity”

“Just think of all the resources at great cost we have had to pull in from elsewhere in the province to deal with this nonsense.”

“Using and enticing young people to break the law is mercenary, and it is despicable. it’s using young people and putting them at risk.”

“It terrorized the people on the coal ship…”

“It…put our officers in harm’s way…”

“It…put the very foundation of the provinces power supply at risk.”

“I learned a lot about the critical importance to our lifeline of having uninterupted power…and I can tell you there is serious potential for disaster when you mess with stuff like this. We can’t afford to take a chance on something that important.”

Grice puts McGuinty’s re-election ahead of residents

2inch_voc_logo-url.jpgIf there is anyone on Haldimand Council who should know what Caledonia residents have suffered through, and who is to blame for it, you’d think it would be Craig Grice, Councillor for Ward 3, especially since he lives close to the Douglas Creek Estates.

Apparently not.

Audio recordings reveal OPP hid DCE dangers from public

UPDATE 1603 EST Oct 21/08: Smoke shack shooter who shot man after threatening woman and child on DCE had 43 previous firearm-related convictions, sentenced to 4.5 years. See Hamilton Spectator, Oct 21/08: Shack shooter gets 4 1/2 years [PDF] [REPRINT].

UPDATE –  Sept 10/07: A new website unconnected with VoC/CWUC has posted excerpts of the audio tapes that are the subject of this article. See Audio recordings reveal OPP hid DCE dangers from public – Part 2. See also, ‘DCE tapes finally revealed‘ by Jeff Parkinson.

UPDATE 1017 EST May 18/07: We have received an unconfirmed report suggesting that yesterday’s shooting incident originally began with an argument on the Six Nations Reserve following which the gunman went to the occupied Douglas Creek Estates where he threatened a woman and child with a rifle before moving on to the smoke shop on Highway 6 where the victim was shot.

police-direct-traffic2.jpg2inch_voc_logo-url.jpgIn light of today’s shooting incident in Caledonia during which – contrary to the impression given by the official OPP news release – the occupied Douglas Creek Estates played a key role, it is time the public knew how dangerous the native occupiers are, and how the OPP has been keeping that knowledge from the public.

Federal civil rights law would protect us from OPP

UPDATE 1320 EST May 11/07: CHTV News report re guilty plea of Trevor Miller re assault on camera crew while OPP refused to help.

So, OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino says it’s not his fault that towns are suffering from Landclaim Terror, it’s all the fault of the federal government.

Ottawa has clearly said that the Caledonia land claim is invalid, so what more does Fantino want from them? Continue reading

Haldimand Council snubs Fantino’s victims

2inch_voc_logo-url.jpgUPDATE 1105 May 11/07: Letter from Haldimand County confirming refusal of Council to allow us to clear our names.

UPDATE 1006 EST April 26/07: Haldimand Residents embarassed by Council

On April 18/07, the day after appearing at a Queen’s Park news conference regarding Fantino’s now-infamous April 7th email wherein he threatens Caledonia’s elected officials for not sticking to their “mutual understanding about the detrimental effect that McHale and his followers were having on Caledonia,” I sent a request to Haldimand City Hall that we be allowed to speak to Council to address Fantino’s defamation campaign and our complaints to the Solicitor General.

At 5pm yesterday I got my answer by phone from a County administrator:

McGuinty’s lap dog neutered?

2inch_voc_logo-url.jpgOPP Commissioner Julian Fantino was at Queen’s Park yesterday, and the poor guy looked like a sad pup who’s been to the vet and realizes he won’t be peeing with the big dogs anymore.  Here’s what he had to say to reporters yesterday (April 19/07) as reported during the 6pm CHTV News report. [dial-up] :

“I’m afraid I’m here on some other business and I’m not going to mix the two.”

“The truth always comes out and I have tremendous faith in the system and I think that’s about all I can say. Thanks.”

(Yes, the truth does indeed always come out. For those who want to judge for themselves who is telling it and who is not, allow me to suggest these 2 documents: 1, 2 )

So, what “other business” could have brought the Commissioner to Queens Park? I’m sure he wasn’t there just because the food’s good and he didn’t know where else to eat.
